Nightmare and the Cat are a Brit-American indie rock band, a project formed by brothers Django and Samuel Stewart, (lead singer and guitarist) sons of The Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart, and Shakespeare's Sister's Siobhan Fahey. The brothers later recruited Claire Acey, (singer and instrumentalist), Spike Phillips (Drummer) and Scott Henderson (Bassist) to complete Nightmare and the Cat as we know it. Formed in 2010,  the band have provided a romp through indie-rock wonderland.

After listening to the band for the first time, it seemed like everything i'd ever heard from this genre of music had something missing. Why? Because it wasn't this. Nightmare and the Cat have well and truly captured something a little rough around the edges. Something special. Their approach to un-pretty indie, begs of love, heartbreak and life. Rock meets indie meets psychedelic awesome? It's a winner. A combination of excellent songwriting,  the right amount of production and their obvious natural talent, has produced one of my favourite albums of this summer. Their lineage did seemingly give them somewhat of a headstart, but their ability is what carries them forward.

I guess i've never really been a cat kinda' gal until now. Their tracks come with huge choruses, galloping drums coupled with laid back, slinky lyrics that will have you singing long before the track has even finished. Nightmare and the Cat have nailed jangly dance-rock in spectacular fashion. They've accumulated an impressive resume too, in 2013 the band toured across the United States supporting label mates Bastille with Little Daylight. They are currently on tour supporting Neon Trees with Smallpools. The summer of 2014 was also a big one for the band having released their LP 'Simple'. Ostentatious and yet understated at the same time, this debut was one of my personal favourites. Watch out for my favourite tracks from the band 'Undercover' and 'Alvarado' however, it's the studio versions I really prefer. Watch Django work his careful croons whilst I work the dancefloor. It's downright amazing.
