Fit for the Escapade: The Sherlocks

16:01Millicent Metcalfe

Believe me, I don't want to seem as though i'm claiming any sort of 'dibs' but similar to everyone else in the nation, i'm currently trying to ride shotgun on The Sherlocks bandwagon. (probably to their inevitable success). As the latest export from the hit machine that is Sheffield, The Sherlocks are really swirling up a storm. A Four piece band made up of two sets of brothers, they have evidently become a close knit set of friends. Creating original music, they are slightly reminiscent of early Arctic Monkeys, back in the Humbug days.

Its clear to see these brothers have a charming relationship, like old friends that are catching up on life as you eavesdrop on their conversation in the pub. They describe themselves as a mixture of 'The Libertines', 'The Jam' and the 'Arctic Monkeys' which, after listening to their music is hard to disagree with.  The Sherlocks have toured relentlessly over the past few years & have played huge gigs like Leeds & Reading festival & SXSW 2016 with a recent single release, there are no signs of The Sherlocks slowing down any time soon.
After bursting on to the scene with their debut single 'Live For The Moment' The Sherlocks have done it again with their new release 'Last Night'. After releasing the single, the Sherlocks are blasting their way into the Top 40. Impressively, this is a band whose success has come off of the back of the hard-work put into the hundreds of live shows that they have done, and the loyal wave of followers that have swept them along. Without publicists or record labels, this band really have propelled themselves on pure talent and an incredible fanbase. But the hype has spread beyond Yorkshire, and the band has recently played sold out shows in Birmingham, Manchester and Nottingham amongst others.
Now if you're ever in need of some new tracks to help release that extra energy of yours, look no further. This northern fuelled, pocket powerhouse's tonality will take you on a journey from Sheffield straight back to the 60's perfectly apt for a scene in Quadrophenia. One listen to 'Last Night' and i'm quickly dancing around in my socks to their relatable hymns of relationships and their anthems of struggle.
There is a confidence to this and their other tracks that is evident in the marching drum beat and static guitar sounds that introduce the track, before the guitar bursts into a crisp, melodic riff. The lyrics, like ‘Heart of Gold’, tell a common story that many will be able to relate to the morning after a night of drinking. There are bold moments in the track, from the distorted warbling at the end, to the tinny megaphone-like echoes of their voices throughout, and the overall feel of the song has a fantastic feel to it, like the band have really found their footing. Their gravelled and yet smooth honey tinged voices will no doubt hook you in, keeping you their with well pocketed bass and lively drums. They hold the ability to encapture everyone's lost piece of youth in under 4 minutes and are still quintessentially themselves whilst doing so. It's time to reclaim those nostalgic parts of ourselves and have a damn good time doing it.
It's incredibly refreshing to see these musicians doing what they love, and on their own terms. Fpr a band that have produced so much success for themselves, I sincerely hope it continues to snowball. Its only a matter of time before these lads hit the big time and I have no doubts it'll be incredibly soon. Keep making ripples, though soon I see them being waves. You, are most certainly fit for the Escapade.

Top Tracks: Last Night, Escapade, Chasing Shadows

And you know what lads? You couldn't deserve the success more.

Millie x
