Finding a singer/songwriter that truly taps into the raw emotions of a person is hard. Undoubtedly, it's something that I find is often lacking in today's music. Though, looking back on that statement I have come to realise that I was wrong. That was before I had had the luxury of listening to Rae Morris. Engaging and clear, her honest and confessional lyrics are really what lured me in. Rae's distinctively pure, charming voice is a much needed comfort, showcasing Rae's inability to simply 'blend in' with the crowd. An excellent singer/songwriter in her own right, her understanding of simplicity-Rae is fresh from the mould.
Born and Raised in Blackpool, Rae Morris is one of the North’s budding new music sensations, and at only 22, Rae has created her
own sound in her own careful way. Often lamenting, heavy with anguish and ruin, she holds the ability to add shade
and depth to her music. Utilising just her voice and a keyboard, Rae isn't
about the glitz and the glam. Though, in her defense she doesn't exactly need
it. She has the 'stripped down singer/songwriter' approach achieved perfectly. From start to finish her voice captivates anyone and everyone that listens
to her sing. Her voice has a sense of power, variety and awareness that seems ill
fitting for such a fragile looking woman, but it somehow works magically. Combined with beautifully shot music videos Rae is definitely on the rise.
At such a young age, it's amazing to see just the sort of music she's been able to create. After touring with Lianne La Havas and Bombay Bicycle Club she's playing with the big guns. She still has a long way to go, with many (myself included) anxious with anticipation to hear her debut album (released sometime next year). With such a strong back catalogue, i'm sure she'll be going very far very soon. Rae Morris has a unique and special talent, one I think she'll hold onto for a very, very long time. And you know what? I wish her all the best.
Favourite tracks 'Skin' and 'Cold'.
Keep it up Rae. #GirlPower
